Women who Do Too Much – how can homeopathy help?
You’re the woman who remembers everyone’s appointments.
You know what need
s buying and organising, who needs calling, and what everyone is having for dinner. You notice when someone is struggling.
And somehow, when it comes to You, you say, “I’m fine.”
So many women become incredibly good at doing too much. We juggle work, family, relationships, homes, responsibilities and the emotional needs of the people around us. We become the organiser, the problem-solver, the dependable one.
But there can come a point when constantly being there for everyone else means there is very little left for you.
“I’m fine” becomes your default
Because when you’re the person who can always manage, people naturally come to rely on you. And after a while, you may start to believe that managing everything is simply who you are.
- You keep going when you’re tired.
- You push through instead of taking a break.
- You tell yourself you’ll slow down after this week, after this deadline, after the children are settled, after everyone else is okay.
- But there is always another week, another deadline.
- And somewhere along the way, your own needs become the thing that gets pushed to the bottom of the list.
- Self-care isn’t about being selfish. It is about recognising that you are a person with needs too.
- Sometimes self-care might mean a walk, an early night, sitting quietly with a cup of tea or saying no to something you simply don’t have the capacity for.
What if you listened to yourself?
The woman who does too much is often brilliant at listening to everyone else.
But what happens when you turn that attention inward? Instead of asking:
“What does everyone need from me today?”
Try asking: “What do I need today?”
It could be rest, it could be some space, some support, or maybe it is simply permission to do less.
You might need to practise saying: “No, I can’t do that right now.” Without a long explanation and without guilt.
You might discover that your body has been asking for something your mind has been too busy to hear.
Don’t collapse before you give yourself permission to pause!
How Can Homeopathy Support the Woman Who Does Too Much?
When a woman comes to see me because she feels exhausted, overwhelmed or simply no longer quite herself, I don’t want to look only at the symptom in front of me.
- I want to understand her.
- What has been happening in her life?
- When did she start feeling this way?
- What has she been carrying?
- What does she keep pushing down?
- What happens when she finally gets a chance to rest?
- Why has she reached the point where she feels she can no longer keep going in the same way?
This is one of the things I love about the homeopathic approach. The person is not simply a collection of symptoms. The aim is to understand the individual as a whole — their physical experiences, emotional wellbeing, circumstances, patterns and the things that may have contributed to how they are feeling.
For the woman who does too much, that can be incredibly important.
Because very often the symptom isn’t the whole story
Someone might come into my consultation room and say, “I’m exhausted.”
- She might have been caring for an elderly parent for three years.
- Perhaps she is running a business while raising children.
- Perhaps she never says no because she doesn’t want to disappoint anyone.
- Perhaps she has spent years being the strong one.
- Perhaps she hasn’t had a proper night’s sleep in months.
- Perhaps she has become so accustomed to putting everyone else first that she no longer even knows what she needs.
The exhaustion is real, but there may be a much bigger story underneath it.
Being listened to matters
How often do women actually get to talk about themselves without feeling that they should be getting on with something else?
A homeopathic consultation can give a woman an opportunity to slow down and reflect on what is happening in her life — not just what is happening to her body (although physical symptoms of course may also be present and will be addressed).
And for many women, the experience of taking a homeopathic remedy becomes part of that process of reconnecting with themselves. I have seen how meaningful it can be when a woman begins to recognise that her exhaustion isn’t simply something she has to push through.
She begins to notice her patterns and starts to recognise where she is giving too much. She starts to think about boundaries.
Rather than simply asking, “What can I give her for stress?”, I would be keen to know what is creating the stress:
- Is she struggling to say no?
- Is she constantly anticipating everyone else’s needs?
- Is she carrying grief, resentment, responsibility or fear?
- Has she lost touch with the things that used to make her feel like herself?
Homeopathy isn’t about finding something that allows you to carry on running yourself into the ground. It’s not: “Take this so you can keep doing everything.”
Instead, perhaps it can become part of a bigger conversation about why you feel you have to do everything in the first place.
- Because you are not a machine.
- You are not here simply to keep everyone else functioning.
- Don’t wait until you completely fall apart before you are allowed to receive support.
Homeopathy isn’t about helping women do more. It’s about helping them pause, be heard, explore what is really going on underneath the surface, and begin to put themselves back on their own list.
In my practice, I see women who find homeopathic remedies very supportive when they are struggling with stress and overwhelm. The remedy is chosen individually, alongside a deeper exploration of the person and what may be contributing to how they are feeling.
The aim isn’t to help you cope with doing too much. It’s to understand why you’re doing too much — and support you in finding a different way. If you would like to know more, please book in for a free call.
